SEL in PBL

This one-day workshop provides an overview of PBL as a transformative approach to social and emotional learning (SEL).

Workshop Description

Reflect on ways in which Transformative Social Emotional Learning (SEL) serves as a lever for equity by lifting up identity, agency, belonging, curiosity, and collaborative decision-making for students in Project Based Learning. Participants will then reflect on a project to consider how they might integrate SEL competencies more robustly into the project design.

Each participant will leave the workshop with a deeper understanding of the connection between Social and Emotional Learning Competencies and Gold Standard PBL, as well as ideas, strategies, and tools to build SEL competencies into a project and their project based teaching practices.

A few more things to know about  SEL in PBL:

SEL in PBL models the PBL process.  You'll be experiencing the same style of learning that you will support your teachers with. The workshop models many features of Project Based Learning — from an engaging entry event to critique and revision.

You'll experience a mix of learning activities.  The workshop is a blend of direct instruction, video analysis, hands-on work, resource sharing, and peer collaboration.

You get access to a host of online resources. Online resources — including an in-workshop companion and post-workshop learning modules — provide continued support beyond the workshop so you can effectively integrate SEL into your Gold Standard Projects.

You'll understand how SEL and PBL support educational equity.  Every workshop and every service we design reflects our mission to prepare all students for academic, personal, and career success.

It's part of a sustained learning journey.  Real change happens over weeks, months, and even years, not overnight. After SEL in PBL, you can continue on your learning path by accessing online resources exclusive to workshop participants,  as well as exploring additional options such as PBL 101 or our Online Courses to deepen your PBL practice.
