PBL Classroom Walkthroughs

PBL Classroom Walkthroughs build the capacity of 1-3 school leaders and instructional coaches to develop a deeper understanding of what Gold Standard Project Based Teaching Practices look like in action.

Workshop Description

In one-day walkthroughs, PBLWorks National Faculty offers targeted expert consulting focused on 1-3 specific Project Based Teaching Practice(s) identified in advance by the school leaders and/or instructional coaches. The walkthrough is anchored in the PBLWorks Project Based Teaching Practices Rubric using the PBL Classroom Walkthrough Tool.

Whether the conversation is centered on Designing & Planning, Aligning to Standards, Building the Culture, Managing Activities, Scaffolding Student Learning, Assessing Student Learning, or Engaging and coaching, participants will use our PBLWorks Classroom Walkthrough Tool to gain insights into their current reality. The National Faculty will share ideas, strategies, and resources throughout the day to strengthen the targeted Project Based Teaching Practices in their classrooms/schools.

What to Expect

The school leader will create the schedule for the day in advance. Plan for a 30-45 minute opening meeting to start the day. During this time, the school leader(s) and the National Faculty will (a) build rapport, (b) understand context, (c) review the schedule, and (d) review the 1-3 Project Based Teaching Practices to be observed.

Next, there will be up to five hours of classroom walkthroughs where leaders/coaches will experience expert consulting anchored in the targeted Project Based Teaching Practices. Depending on school needs, these walkthroughs can range from 15-45 minutes long.

The day will end with a final 30-45 minute meeting to offer an opportunity to (a) reflect on what they observed and (b) identify the next steps.
