Novato, California (March 5, 2019) – PBLWorks today announced Dr. Pedro Noguera as a keynote speaker for PBL World 2019, the largest annual event for educators who want to begin and advance their Project Based Learning practice. The conference will take place June 18-20, 2019 (pre-conference session June 17), at American Canyon High School in Napa Valley. To register, visit PBL World 2019.
Dr. Noguera is a Distinguished Professor of Education at the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies and Faculty Director for the Center for the Transformation of Schools at UCLA, as well as an accomplished author, dynamic speaker, critically acclaimed scholar and a committed activist who specializes in a wide range of issues related to education, social justice and public policy. The keynote address is scheduled for June 18, 2019.
“Project-based learning requires students to work together, turn to teachers when they need help, solve problems and persist through challenges. These are social-emotional skills that are integral to learning and becoming an adult,” Dr. Noguera said. “PBLWorks champions this idea and is a leader in this field. I am looking forward to the opportunity to speak on this topic at PBL World 2019.”
Dr. Noguera’s research focuses on the ways in which schools are influenced by social and economic conditions, as well as by demographic trends in local, regional and global contexts. He is the author of twelve books – most recently “Excellence Through Equity: Five Principles of Courageous Leadership to Guide Achievement for Every Student” – and more than 200 articles and monographs.
Prior to joining the faculty at UCLA, Dr. Noguera served as the Peter L. Agnew Professor of Education at New York University and the Executive Director of the Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools. He has also served as the Judith K. Dimon Professor of Communities and Schools at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and as a professor at the University of California, Berkeley where he was also the Director of the Institute for the Study of Social Change. From 2009 to 2012 he served as a Trustee for the State University of New York (SUNY) as an appointee of the Governor.
PBL World is a one-of-a-kind, multi-day event which brings together K-12 teachers, instructional coaches, and school and district leaders who want to begin or advance their Project Based Learning initiatives and connect with a community of their peers.
“Dr. Noguera is one of the most important voices in advancing equity in education through approaches like high quality Project Based Learning, and he’s an inspiring speaker who will help set the tone for an energizing event. We are delighted to have him present at PBL World,” said Bob Lenz, executive director of PBLWorks.”
